Claudio D’Amico is an Italian politician, who has served as the councilor for public security in the municipality of Sesto San Giovanni. He was a MP from 2008 to 2013, a Mayor of Cassina de 'Pecchi from 2009 to 2013 and a member of the Italian Delegation to the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly from June 2008 to March 2013. He is a member of the Lombardy-Russia Cultural Association that promotes the Kremlin’s policies. D’Amico observed the illegitimate Crimean “referendum” in 2014.

The majority of the people in Europe think that the results of the election are predetermined. I do agree but only in a sense that people are happy with President Putin. There are 8 candidates representing different political camps and a list of them is shown at the entrance to the polling stations. People will vote for someone who they think is the best.
